Historical Origins

The popularity of the Kurhaus originated in 1818. By faith in the therapeutic effect of seawater, people were pulled by horse into the sea to prevent rheumatism, nervous diseases or obesity. Following the famous seaside resorts in Belgium and France, the popularity of Scheveningen beach grew in the 19th century. Therefore the Kurhaus became an elegant location where guests could dine or entertain themselves. In 1885 the Kurhaus in Scheveningen opened its doors!

Grand Tour

Throughout the years the property has been owned by several different proprietors. As a result, several rooms which served different functions have been removed (library, conversation room, spa rooms) and re-purposed (conference rooms, bath rooms and entrance hall) as they exist today. The spectacular Kurzaal has remained intact. During the tour the Kurhaus’s history will be illustrated in more details.

Afterwards you will enjoy our sumptuous High Tea with stunning views over the North Sea at our restaurant Waves at The Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus.
